The same path in research

McKinsey: the value of AI grows in four levels

McKinsey studied 471 companies owned by private equity, across 31 industries. It sorted the value AI brings into four levels. The multiple is the company's value over its revenue, as a median.

McKinsey level 113x Experiments Separate trials and personal tools. AI is not part of the workflows. AIMEAT levels 1–2
McKinsey level 214x Efficiency AI is in the workflows. Productivity and margin improve. AIMEAT levels 3–4
McKinsey level 320x The product changes AI is part of the product or the service. It starts to show in sales. AIMEAT level 5 opens this

Productivity alone does not raise value

Levels 1 and 2 are close: 13x and 14x. Value rises when AI changes what the company sells. AIMEAT levels 1 to 4 are the base. Level 5 opens McKinsey levels 3 and 4.

Our view: you do not need a separate AI team

McKinsey names the shortage of skilled people as the biggest obstacle, and says level 4 needs separate AI teams. When people and agents work on the same platform, AI is inside every team. You can build new services with the people you already have.

What the platform must give at each step
